Why Is My Roomba Not Moving From Base?
Is your little robot cleaner stuck in the station? A Roomba not moving from base problem can be quite frustrating, especially if it is the only robot cleaner you are using daily. Still, it is a common problem with simple solutions. Before you think of a major malfunction, consider these important reasons:
Common Causes & Solutions
1️⃣ Battery Not Properly Charged
Sometimes the battery does not get charged completely because it is not connected properly. Remove and reinsert the battery, and also check that the base's metal contacts are clean.
2️⃣ Charging Contacts Dirty
Charging may be affected by dirt and dust. Gently clean the contacts on the Roomba and on the charging station as well.
3️⃣ Software Glitch
A restart can occasionally give the whole system a very brief refresh. Hold the CLEAN button down for 20 seconds until you hear the reset tone.
4️⃣ Blocked Wheel
Wheels might be immobilized due to pet hair or garbage that is caught around them. Clean the wheels and then also turn them by hand to check that they can turn without any restriction.
5️⃣ Navigation Roomba Sensors Not Working
Roomba may get wrong feedback because of dirty sensors. A soft cloth should be used for cleaning the cliff and wall sensors.
Usage of the App
Ensure that your robot is linked to the iRobot App Login. You will receive an alert in case of any problems, such as charging failure or wheel obstruction. In addition, the app provides real-time guided troubleshooting steps as well.
Roomba Firmware Update
Timely failure to update firmware could be the cause of docking or movement issues. The iRobot app is the only option for a Roomba firmware update:
- Connect Roomba to Wi-Fi
- Place it on the home base
- Allow it to automatically install the update
Updates result in improved navigation, battery life, and fewer glitches.

If it happens that your Roomba is still at the dock after all these steps, contact the iRobot Support team for professional help. The mix of routine cleaning and software updates will ensure your Roomba operates smoothly; therefore, your floors will be clean daily!
